I was looking at the forecast for Wednesday and look what I saw:

D6: Wed, Jul 04, 2007 – Thu, Jul 05, 2007

The Storm Prediction Center has an outlook for Day 6 (the 4th of July).

The NWS office out of Gaylord still has a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. This is most likely due to the fact that the sixth day of the forecast is less likely to verify than say tomorrow. The SPC graphic is experimental and as I have said before in past posts, the forecast for day 6 may change several times before we get something usable. With that said stay tuned for future updates, either from me or from the links to the right. I guess the fireworks aren’t safe yet. Although, I saw that Gaylord’s fireworks are on the 7th.

Another upper level high pressure system will be in control of the western Great Lakes making the weekend and with the surface high to the west the cool air will continue to dominate the weather here in northern Michigan. So outdoor activities will be prime this weekend. The temperatures will be in the lower 70s over most of the region.

Monday through Wednesday will be a little different with a chance of showers and thunderstorms through the 4th. Temperatures will be warmer as the surface high will be east of the Great Lakes so expect temperatures in the lower 80s by the 4th. I’ll try to get some updates out this week so that you can plan for the fireworks this week. The rain should be scattered enough so that most places should be able to get in their fireworks displays.

The festival season is in full swing across northern Michigan with the kick off of my favorite festival, The Big Ticket. So if you are doing anything outdoors this coming weekend, you are in luck for good weather. Temperatures are expected to be in the lower 80s again and no rain is expected at this time. I’ll try and update the blog, just in case there are any changes. I myself am going to try and do a little camping in Gaylord during the festival so that I don’t have to get up so early to go see the bands.

The CPC 8-14 day outlook shows that we will have above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation. Not good for the gardeners, unless they water their plots. However, it is good for the hikers and the festival goers as warm temperatures and dry weather usually mean a good time.

Summer is here! Well by the calendar, meteorological summer, which stretches from 1 June to 31 August. Temperatures for the upcoming weekend are looking to be in the middle to upper 80s for Friday and Saturday, just before showers and thunderstorms move into the region for the afternoon and evening. This is due to a cold front that will make its way through the region as jet stream gets storm systems moving again. Sunday looks dry as the cold front pushes south Michigan by the morning. So most of you with the return trip on Sunday will have good weather to end the weekend as well as for travel home. Currently, the chance for severe thunderstorms will be to the west of the region as well.

Looking to the following weekend, which in the Gaylord area is the Big Ticket Festival, the Climate Prediction Center is looking for normal temperatures, and Above normal precipitation. Now that the jet stream has broken its block, that would make sense, as the storm systems will probably begin marching through the region more regularly. Great if you like the gardening for our out of doors activity, but not for most of the others.

It seems like I keep getting to the blog every two weeks. I may have to just post the 8-14 day outlooks from CPC Every couple of weeks. As I have said in the past, family and work issues come up and I have to put the blog aside. Such is the case with this last two weeks. Okay, enough of me and my excuses…

The rest of this weekend will be mostly sunny, warm and pleasant. Temperatures around the region will be the mid 70s today and around 80 on Sunday.

The rest of this next week is much of the same, with Clear to Partly cloudy skies, highs around 80 and little to no chance of precipitation through to next weekend, as of right now.

For the specific details…see the link to the National Weather Service Office near Gaylord, MI. If you have any problems deciphering the forecast. Leave a comment in the comment section and I’ll explain it. That’s why I write this blog.
